YESHIVAH OF FLATBUSH

JOEL BRAVERMAN HIGH SCHOOL

MAY AND BERNARD BLUMENTHAL

SCHOLARS INITIATIVE PROGRAM

At the Yeshivah of Flatbush, we firmly believe that the best way to change the world for the better is to foster the talents of our diverse student body. To that end, we are offering select sophomores the opportunity to join our Scholars Initiative Program. Those selected will have the opportunity to research, under guided mentorships, their personal areas of interest. Be it biology or art, writing or politics, students will be encouraged to thoroughly immerse themselves in an independent field of study. Based on their research, students will go on to develop concrete projects and initiatives that will help translate their studies into reality.

As a culminating project, students will present their research findings at a formal dinner with the administration, members of the Board, parents, and select students. This dinner will not only high-light the research of the scholars, it will also give them an opportunity to formally propose their plans for the future. Who knows? Perhaps one of their ideas will change not only their own futures but that of their school, community, city or country. The next Steve Jobs may be doodling in his notebook in room 402 as we speak!

This program offers a rare opportunity for our strongest students to research and explore the topics that most deeply interest them. Highlights include:

v  Educational trips to major cultural and scholastic institutions

v  Formal dinner with members of the Board, faculty, and parents

v  Substantial prestige bolstering college admissions

v  Individualized study with mentors in their field of interest

To be admitted to the program students must demonstrate a willingness to work independently and a sincere passion for a particular area of study. Applications can be downloaded here. All applications will be reviewed by the Scholars Program admissions panel. Following the interview, a select amount of students will be admitted into the program.
